The answer alternatives can consist of HTML code, hence allowing a limited set of mathematical expressions such as fractions with HTML sup and sub elements. Read more here.

Another method, if you are using the add-on formula editor, is to copy-paste the HTML code from the formula editor output to the answer alternatives.
