Please note the collection of Q & A's below applies to the Fronter Y11 release, rolled out during the autumn 2011. The collection may be updated so please watch this space.

Accessing rooms

Q. How do I access rooms with the new interfaces?

A. To access rooms click on the "room" drop down menu at the top left of the screen.

Q. How many rooms will be displayed in my favourites list?

A. A maximum of 20 rooms will be displayed. If you have more than 20 rooms in your favourite's list you will need to click on "Display all rooms" to view them.

Q. I have rooms added as tabs as shortcuts for users, will these appear in the new interfaces?

A. Yes, any rooms you have added as tabs previously will be automatically added into the new interface.

Old and Custom designs

Q. Will all the previous designs be removed in Y11?

A. Yes, this is so that we can develop new functionality based on a standardised interface and as a result will be able to implement improvements much quicker than previously possible.

Q. I have a custom design I have created, will I still be able to use it?

A. Yes, custom designs will still be available. We would recommend users to try the new designs and you can move over to using them at any time if you wish.

Q. Will I still be able to use the "Design" tool to create further bespoke designs?

A. The Design tool will be removed in Y11, but we plan to add the ability to customise the design through an interface.

Q. Can I still have custom designs created for me?

A. Yes, a custom design service will still be available. Please contact your local sales team to request a quote.

Q. Will I still be able to use custom CSS in rooms (with global setting 811 enabled)?

A. For the new designs in Y11, the custom CSS in rooms is no longer supported. If you are using a custom, bespoke design, this functionality will still be available.

Q. Anything I have to do to keep my custom designs intact?

A. No, your custom designs will stay on for the users that had them prior to the upgrade. Please note however that emptying the browser cache may be required after the upgrade.

Personal customisations

Q. Can I still customise the Today page for my own user account?

A. No, the Design tab from the customise today page view has been removed.

Icons

Q. Which icons are changed?

A. With the new interfaces, all icons have been updated to yield a consistent user experience. In addition, we have completely changed two of the assignment status icons used in connection to hand-ins and the portfolio and result matrix, to make sure the icons are easy to understand and recognizable from other web applications. Please refer to the image on the right hand side to view the icons.

Other changed functionality

Q. How about accessing functionality for elements in Fronter, such as editing files, commenting etc.?

A. Earlier you would see several options per element both at the bottom of the folder view as well as in the context menu on the left hand side of the element, e.g. editing the properties of a file/folder. We have cleaned up these options so that all options not possible to perform on several elements in one go are removed from the list at the bottom, and are now only available in the context menu. In other words, at the bottom you will only see functionality applicable on several elements at once (such as delete or copy), while the context menu contains functionality you can run on individual elements (such as edit and edit properties).
