Click here for the revised Start of Year guidance and scenarios for the Fronter for 2013/2014 academic year.

Please note that this is a UK specific process. Please contact your local partner to clarify if you will be included in the process. The process is the same as last year but with revised dates listed below:

• MIS data imports into Fronter will be automatically deactivated on 1st July 2013.

• The MIS integration setup option in the admin section of Fronter will be temporarily removed to prevent Re-activation and will be re-added on the 2nd September 2013.

NOTE: This means that data will not update within Fronter during this period giving you time to prepare your MIS systems for the new academic year without it affecting your Fronter building. Schools wishing to deactivate imports earlier than 1st July can do this manually themselves or contact the Fronter Helpdesk to request this.

IMPORTANT: Schools wishing to have their MIS integration switched on earlier than the 2nd September must contact the Fronter help desk to request this.

IMPORTANT: On 27th August 2013 Fronter will perform some automated functions as follows: (the first two will not happen for schools that have request early re-activation as this will have already been completed)

• Fronter will auto archive all MIS (imported) rooms. This will also include any automatically generated rooms that are open from previous academic years.

• Fronter will delete all MIS (imported) rooms that have never been activated from previous academic years

• An update will be run to ensure that all schools regardless of their MIS system will receive a new set of MIS rooms for the new academic year

Once your MIS is ready for the next academic year, you will be able to re-activate the import as from 2nd September.

altTo maintain a secure learning environment, as a general rule, the Fronter learning platform is not open to external iframes. However, we know that many of you want to be able to embed content in Pages, Tests, Documents and Learning paths.

Because we really want to improve teachers’ workflow we are making it easier for you to embed content, without compromising the security of the platform.

In addition to previously added Google Docs, YouTube and Espresso (read more here), you can now embed iframes from the following service providers:

  • google.com (now including maps, calendar, drive, etc)
  • wookie.eun.org
  • viddler.com
  • ndla.no
  • istribute.com
  • vimeo.com
  • bambuser.com
  • prezi.com
  • soundcloud.com
  • geogebratube.org
In addition, twitter.com is partially supported, enabling you to embed tweets as described here (dev.twitter.com), but only displaying the tweets in plain text.

The June monthly maintenance window on Wednesday June 5th will consist of maintenance on the SCORM service. Starting from 19:00 CET, a number of customer databases storing SCORM data are upgraded. During this upgrade, the SCORM service is not available. Please liaise with your local Fronter team to check if your service is effected.

Once the upgrade operation is completed, a few hours later, all SCORM servers will be restarted. The restart will involve a few minutes downtime for the SCORM service for all customers.

Please note this maintenance is still under the old schedule of the first Wednesday each month. As previously announced, starting in August, the monthly maintenance window will occur on the second Wednesday each month.

We are pleased to announce the forthcoming upgrade of the Elluminate Live 10 tool to the brand new Blackboard Collaborate 12. The new version has a different look-and-feel and contains a number of both backend and frontend improvements. The highlights include:

  • A completely redesigned user experience, with a modernised look and feel
  • Echo cancellation
  • Improved classroom management (chat tabs, toggle alerts, improved permission management)

This upgrade will take place in the evening of Wednesday, May 29th. During the upgrade there will be a downtime for this service, but not effecting anything else in Fronter. The downtime will start at 22:00 CET and is estimated to take up to 4 hours. The upgrade of this tool will apply to all customers regardless of Fronter version or hosting center.

We are pleased to announce the release of a brand new design called Play Mini. This new design is based on the current Play design, but it is optimised to better fit smaller screens and tablet devices.

The main changes in the Play Mini design are:

  • The top menu contains smaller icons, and the width of the left hand side menu is reduced
  • You are able to completely hide the room tool left hand side menu

The Play Mini design will be released to all Y12 customers on Thursday, May 16th. Note that this new design is deactivated by default, so that a top level administrator will need to activate the design before anyone can use it. Please contact your local Fronter team in case of any help needed.
